iBook Demo Days Coming ! and More... (1999)

According to Apple's Demo Days site at least 13 Apple Demo Days are being planned thru-out the Fall/Holiday season. While no specific product plans have yet been announced, iBook-User expects that Apple Demo Days will cover the iBook, the New G4's, Airport, OS 9 and the expected Revised iMac's.

When does it start ?

We Estimate Demo Days will start about 9/24 and end around 12/12 that would make 12 weekends. Room for about a Demo Day weekend every other week. There is also a Rumor floating about that CompUSA and Sears will have rotating weekends for the Demo Days. If you have any info Email us!

How Do I sign Up ?

See our Report: Chance to Win an iBook Doing Demo Days

Below we explain how we arrived at our Estimate's for the following demo product dates:

  • iBook- Apple/Marketsource has to allow at least 1 week for sign up's and 1 week receiving Mailed forms back to Marketsource and then, sending out promotional materials to the volunteers who signed up.(Last year some folks didn't receive their iMac materials in time or at all! Despite having 3 months to prepare.) *An early 9/18 Demo Day is a Remote possibility.

  • G4's- G4 Demo Day probably will take place as soon as at least 2 model's are available to display like the 400 MHz & 450 Mhz. The big question is, will Apple show the 400 if either of the Sawtooth models 450 MHz or 500 MHz aren't ready ? (If you were Apple wouldn't you want show off your Pentium-crusher?)

  • Airport- We think it's possible that the Revolutionary Airport could have it's own Demo Day (as soon as Apple gets FCC approval) or will be at least combined with another product on a second weekend piggybacking on another product. (Think of someone doing a demo playing Unreal on an iBook in front of CompUSA against a player in the Apple Store in back! Cool!)

  • OS 9- OS 9 is expected to ship* sometime in Mid to late Oct. We think it will be out by Oct 31 at the latest. *As long as Apple settles a OS 9 name dispute quickly.

  • iMac's- Code named C2/Kilei and rumored to feature a 17" screen, DVD, airport slot, dual firewire, G4/350 Mhz and everything else in the kitchen sink ;)
The staff was split on when it will ship, Some expect an Announcement in France on the 15th, most feel it will ship in Oct. I think it's safe to say that if there's going to be a refreshed iMac It Will be out by Halloween!

  • General Apple Demo Day- The Final one or two Demo Day's in general will cover all the incredible New Products from Apple that will come out over the last 4 months of the year.
